Did you know Michael Jordan owns a Hennessey Venom F5 worth $3.5 million? It is easy to assume the basketball legend’s most jaw-dropping purchase would be a rare sneaker or a piece of memorabilia, but Jordan’s garage tells a different story, and it includes one of the fastest convertibles ever built.
The car in question is a Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution Roadster, an open-top version of Hennessey’s already outrageous hypercar. Only 90 examples of the Roadster were ever slated for production, and each one starts north of $3 million before a single custom option gets added. Jordan’s build pushed the final price to roughly $3.5 million once it was finished to his personal specification.
Part of that customization came down to practicality. At six-foot-six, Jordan needed a cockpit that could actually fit him, and the Roadster’s open-air layout gave him more room than the standard coupe. Hennessey also loaded the car with the aerodynamic and structural upgrades that come with the Revolution package, changes the automaker says make it the quickest convertible on the planet.
Underneath, the Venom F5 Revolution Roadster runs Hennessey’s 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8, a motor the company nicknamed Fury. It sends 1,817 horsepower through a seven-speed single-clutch transmission to the rear wheels only, with no all-wheel-drive safety net included. That much power going through two tires instead of four is very much the point, and Hennessey has been happy to show it off, including a Venom F5 Revolution sliding through the snow just to prove the platform can handle more than a straight line.
Because every Venom F5 is built to order, no two cars leave the factory looking alike, and Jordan’s is no exception. His example wears a full carbon fiber body finished with yellow accents, a nod to the look Hennessey uses on its own official Revolution Roadster demo car.
The delivery itself became something of an event. Hennessey Performance founder John Hennessey, a longtime friend of Jordan’s, personally handed over the keys at The Grove XXIII, Jordan’s private golf club in Florida. Jordan is not the only star who has gotten hands-on time with Hennessey’s hypercar. Joe Rogan once sat behind the wheel of a Venom F5 for a spin of his own, and Hennessey has kept building on the platform since, including a one-off version built with an actual manual transmission for buyers who wanted three pedals instead of one. Jordan’s Venom F5 is not even the only headline-grabbing car tied to his name these days, either. Collectors recently solved a 24-year mystery involving one of his old Ferraris, proving his garage still has stories left to tell.
