If you’re like us, seeing some barn find videos on the internet evokes a strong desire to roll your eyes and laugh. After all, so many TV shows and social media influencers document finding vehicles which were supposedly abandoned in a barn or other structure for years, even decades, but everything seems a little too pretty.
You have to see the end of this insane off-road race.
It’s almost like you’re watching a carefully crafted lie. The fact the people who put it together think you’re dumb enough to fall for it is insulting. Then again, plenty sadly buy the whole story.
But a video we ran across which shows the discovery and recovery of a barn find 1974 Pontiac Catalina demonstrates what a real situation looks like.
The YouTube channel which uploaded the footage, Bobs Classic Cars & Parts, has under 6,000 followers and the video has only been watched by a few hundred people. After all, a Catalina isn’t nearly as sexy as a GTO or a Hemi ‘Cuda.

That’s one dead giveaway that you might be dealing with a staged “barn find”: the abandoned car is unbelievable. Granted, sometimes such vehicles are genuinely left in a barn, shed, or garage for years on end.
But there are so many of the most remarkable, collectable classic cars just left to gather dust, we sometimes wonder if anyone ever cherished the iconic rides instead of treating them like a junk drawer.
These guys are excited enough to save a ’74 Pontiac Catalina that’s been sitting for over a quarter of a century. We respect their enthusiasm because this is a big deal. Despite what the internet might make some people think, actually coming across and saving a barn find isn’t a daily occurrence.
Watch this authentic barn find documented rather unglamorously here.
