A feud between Koenigsegg and one of its most recognizable customers spilled into public view last week, turning Instagram into the stage for a rare clash between an automaker and a marquee buyer. At its core: delayed deliveries, questions about reliability, and a frustration that finally boiled over into the open.
The Hamilton Collection, run by collector Steve Hamilton, fired the first shot, posting a string of Instagram stories laying out his complaints against the Swedish manufacturer. Top of the list was a years-long wait for the Gemera, the four-seat hypercar still not in production long after its debut, plus a drawn-out delay on Hamilton’s Jesko – a car he’d configured in person at the company’s headquarters.
By his account, the Jesko had been more than two years coming. Hamilton followed up with pointed jabs at Christian von Koenigsegg himself, mocking the founder with a doctored image and demanding the car be delivered. He also hinted that other owners had privately voiced the same gripes.
Von Koenigsegg answered straight from his personal Instagram. In a video, he addressed the Jesko timeline and showed footage of what he said was Hamilton’s finished car going through final checks before shipping. He didn’t dig into what caused the holdups, but the message was clear: the car was nearly out the door.
The fight also turns on Hamilton’s second-hand 2019 Regera. He said the car has spent most of its life in the shop, including a long recent stay. Von Koenigsegg pushed back, pointing out the Regera came through a third-party dealer with no service history for three years, and noting that the company had stepped in to cover repairs at no charge as a courtesy.
For all the sharp elbows, Hamilton later said he doesn’t think Koenigsegg’s staff act in bad faith – he wants accountability and consistency from the brand, not a war. Either way, the public back-and-forth lit up the supercar community, a reminder of what happens when small-batch hypercar production collides with sky-high expectations and an online audience hungry for drama.
