Sammy Hagar’s 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari is heading to auction, and the combination of celebrity ownership, extreme rarity, and near-zero mileage makes it one of the most anticipated collector car lots of early 2024. The former Van Halen frontman and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is consigning the car to Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale Auction, where it will cross the block on Saturday, January 27.
What Makes the LaFerrari Special
Ferrari produced only 499 examples of the LaFerrari, making it one of the rarest road cars the manufacturer has ever built. The powertrain combines a naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V12 with a hybrid electric motor, producing a combined output of 949 horsepower. Performance figures are genuinely extraordinary: 0 to 60 miles per hour in under three seconds and a top speed exceeding 217 miles per hour. At the time of its launch, it represented Ferrari’s most advanced engineering in a road car form.
Hagar’s example shows approximately 1,100 miles on the odometer — a figure that reflects how carefully the car has been preserved. For a LaFerrari that’s now roughly a decade old, that kind of mileage essentially means the vehicle is in as-new mechanical condition.
The Custom Specification
Hagar had his LaFerrari finished in a custom cream exterior with carbon fiber and black accents, a specification he developed after seeing a vintage Ferrari in a photograph hanging on the wall of the Maranello factory during a visit in 2014. The same color palette continues into the cabin. The combination is distinctive among LaFerrari examples and gives this particular car an identity well beyond standard factory configurations.
What to Expect at Auction
LaFerrari values have appreciated consistently since production ended. Celebrity ownership adds a premium on top of the car’s already strong market position, and the unique specification makes it a standout even within the 499-unit production run. Barrett-Jackson’s televised Scottsdale event draws serious collector car buyers and consistently produces results at the top of market — an environment well-suited to a lot of this profile.
