Ever creating controversy and awash in flamboyant actions, one wouldn’t easily picture rapper and former US presidential candidate Kanye West used to roll around in this rather nondescript 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK 500, which is now for sale in Germany of all places.

It’s no secret celebrities often keep some toned-down vehicles on reserve for when they want to travel around town incognito. These gray man vehicles usually have heavy tinting so you can’t see who’s inside as the famous driver or passenger dons sunglasses and a hat for good measure. But Kanye’s old humble ride was a drop-top convertible so he could bear it all to the public.
In a way, the irony of his owning a rather pedestrian Mercedes that still put him on public display seems fitting. However, the truth is this car was a gift to the rapper’s mother, so he didn’t drive around in it, although we’re not sure if he might have ridden as a passenger.
According to the German car dealer selling this CLK 500, a place called Savex GmbH, this car was purchased by Yeezy back in 2004. However, not everyone on the internet seems convinced this convertible was indeed bought by the rapper since documenting proof isn’t included in the vehicle listing.
Perhaps the dealer has clear, documented proof of the original owner that will be shown to serious buyers. Since the car is all the way over in Germany we’re not exactly going to swing buy and ask. However, this is a US-spec vehicle and wears the rare Iolite Blue Metallic paint, so that alone makes it an oddity even in Germany.
Despite not being overly flashy, the CLK 500 hits hard with a 5.0-liter V8. Plus, the price is quite reasonable at 35,900 euros. In other words, even if this ride never was owned by Kanye, enthusiasts who are interested in an older CLK that one day might be a classic could snag this one for a good deal.
