Doyle Archer has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest active male truck driver, a milestone that reflects both longevity and consistency in a career spanning more than six decades.
Archer secured the record at 90 years and 55 days of age while continuing to drive over-the-road routes. Over the course of his trucking career, he is estimated to have logged approximately 5.5 million miles, a figure that places him among the most experienced drivers in the industry.
For the past 20 years, Archer has driven for Coomes Inc., a trucking company based in Phillipsburg, Kansas. During that time, he also earned a Million Mile Safe Driver honor after completing one million miles of freight hauling without a single incident, highlighting a safety record that has remained intact well into his ninth decade.
Archer’s career has allowed him to see nearly every part of the United States. His travels have taken him across deserts and mountain ranges, into ports, space centers, and major industrial regions. Despite the variety of landscapes and destinations, he considers the wheat fields of the Kansas High Plains in early summer to be his favorite view.
Raised on a Kansas farm, Archer earned a college degree in agriculture and initially worked in the lumber and grain industries. In 1961, asthma forced him to leave that line of work, prompting a career change rather than retirement. He transitioned into trucking that same year and built a lifelong profession behind the wheel.
Now 90, Archer says he has no plans to stop driving as long as his health allows him to continue. His ongoing career reflects both personal determination and the changing face of the trucking workforce.
When he is not on the road, Archer spends time with his wife of 70 years and their extended family, which includes nine children, 25 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He also enjoys antique automobiles and watching classic John Wayne films, balancing a demanding profession with long-standing personal interests.
