When Ken Block died in a snowmobile accident in Utah on January 2, 2023, the automotive world lost one of its most creative and charismatic figures. Block had spent more than a decade redefining what a car stunt video could be through the Gymkhana series — high-production, precision driving films that turned urban landscapes and race circuits into playgrounds. Now, Hoonigan has confirmed that one final Gymkhana film starring Block exists and will be released.
The Hoonitron and the Location
A trailer released by Hoonigan shows Block behind the wheel of the Hoonitron — the all-electric Audi S1 e-tron quattro built specifically to his requirements for his previous Gymkhana entry, which was titled Electrikhana. The footage in the new trailer was filmed on what appears to be the streets of Cuernavaca, the capital of the Mexican state of Morelos. Spanish-language signage is visible throughout, confirming the international location.
The Hoonitron was a purpose-built collaboration between Block and Audi, developed from the ground up as a performance-oriented electric platform capable of the kind of sustained, tire-shredding precision that defined Gymkhana. That Block worked with multiple automakers over the years to build vehicles that met his exacting standards speaks to the seriousness with which he approached every production.
What This Release Means
For fans of Block’s work, the existence of a completed, unreleased Gymkhana film is an unexpected and bittersweet gift. Most assumed Electrikhana, released in October 2022, would be the final chapter. The fact that Block had already filmed another full-length entry before his death means the series gets a true conclusion rather than an abrupt end.
Block’s oldest daughter Lia has begun stepping into motorsport in her own right since his passing, carrying the family’s competitive spirit forward. The release of his final film adds a formal close to one of the most influential creative careers in automotive entertainment.
The final Ken Block Gymkhana video is scheduled to drop in December, though an exact date hasn’t been confirmed.
