Lewis Hamilton is mourning the loss of his faithful companion, Roscoe, a 12-year-old bulldog who had become a familiar face in the Formula 1 world. Hamilton announced the news on Monday, revealing that Roscoe died Sunday evening after a difficult battle with pneumonia. The dog had been hospitalized the week before and placed in a coma as veterinarians tried to save him.
Hamilton wrote that after four days on life support, he was forced to make what he called “the hardest decision of my life” and say goodbye. The seven-time world champion missed a scheduled Formula 1 tire test to remain by Roscoe’s side during his final days, underscoring the deep bond between them.
Roscoe had been more than just a pet — he was a fixture in Hamilton’s career and personal life. The bulldog often accompanied the Mercedes driver to races, becoming something of a mascot in the paddock and a fan favorite on social media. Hamilton frequently shared photos of their travels, from private jets to pit lanes, and often described Roscoe as his best friend.
Roscoe even made a cameo appearance in the upcoming Formula 1 film starring Brad Pitt, a testament to his place in Hamilton’s world and the sport’s culture. Hamilton’s post drew an outpouring of support from fans and fellow drivers, many expressing how Roscoe had become part of the Formula 1 family.
Heading into this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, Hamilton admitted he was struggling emotionally, saying he felt the loss deeply but was grateful for the memories they shared. “He was my everything,” Hamilton wrote. “The love, loyalty, and happiness he gave me will never be forgotten.”
