As the Formula One film prepares for its U.S. release, much of the buzz centers on the realism of its on-track footage. That authenticity was made possible by the crew’s ingenuity, which included fabricating a specialized camera by repurposing the internals of an Apple iPhone to capture striking point-of-view shots.
Solving technical challenges with creative engineering is often what separates immersive filmmaking from the ordinary. By building their own camera hardware, the production team managed to put audiences closer to the action than conventional equipment would have allowed, adding to the movie’s sense of speed.
