Disney has announced it will be bringing a new Pixar Cars attraction to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom in Florida. We expect this will be a big hit considering many people are fans of the Cars franchise. We’re here for it since anything that can turn kids into gearheads is a good thing in our book.

The new section of the theme park will be called Piston Peak National Park. It’s a wilderness area inspired by the Rocky Mountains and nearby national parks. While there are ranger guides and other characters, they won’t be human but instead will be sentient automobiles, just like the ones in the Cars franchise.
Several rides are planned for this section of the theme park. It sounds like the main one will be some sort of off-road rally, which could be a lot of fun. We imagine it will be a fairly fast ride with some bumps and maybe jumps.
While unlikely, we think it would be cool if Disney made a ride that simulates what it’s like to go rock crawling. We’re talking something hardcore where at points your rig has three wheels in the air and you’re pointing at some sick angles.
Disney says it’s taking a page out of the National Park Service playbook and is putting to work what’s called “Parkitecture.” In other words, the different buildings in Piston Peak National Park will harmonize with the “natural” settings where they’re located, similar to what you find in a national park.
This sounds like a cool, interesting experience, but it’s not clear when this Cars-themed section of Magic Kingdom will be completed. However, it just shows the lasting influence of automotive culture, even in the context of national parks.
