A woodpecker is being blamed for vandalism done to over 25 cars in a single coastal Massachusetts town. It seems the bird in question caused quite the commotion, leaving police and residents baffled, until one woman figured out the identity of the tiny culprit.
A luxurious private racetrack in the Arizona desert is expanding under new ownership.
People in the town of Rockport have been finding the side mirrors or windshield on their cars have been mysteriously cracked while unattended, hinting that a vandal was causing the expensive damage. For those who don’t have glass coverage on their ride, making those repairs can be costly, especially if it’s done repeatedly.
As police and others were on the hunt for the culprit, nobody seemed able to catch whoever was doing the damage. That is until one woman caught the woodpecker in question on camera, reports NBC News.
This isn’t the first time we’ve covered animals damaging cars. For example, last year some racoons damaged the tonneau cover on a Cybertruck, likely mistaking the EV for a dumpster. Dogs literally tore apart a woman’s SUV as they were chasing a cat that was hiding in it. Just last month, a wild turkey sliced through a driver’s windshield. And a wild moose trashed BMWs sitting in a repair shop, doing serious damage to the cars.
According to this woman, she saw the woodpecker land on a windshield wiper, then watch its reflection in the glass before pecking at it. One wildlife expert told NBC News it’s possible the aggressive behavior is related to the peak of mating season.
In other words, Woody is just trying to take out the competition, not realizing that handsome bird he’s looking at is really him.
We just hope everyone victimized by the tiny vandal has been able to handle the damage without financial hardship. After all, windshields have become expensive to replace lately.
