A guy ran from California Highway Patrol in the Los Angeles area when officers tried pulling him over for overly dark tint on his Dodge Challenger. We’ve heard people complain about police chases over speeding or other moving violations, but to see one over window tint is really something else.

Everyone’s going to have their opinion over whether police should’ve been pursuing the guy or not. Where you land in that argument probably has to do with your opinion on government regulations and the function of window tint.
For law enforcement officers, dark tint can be quite dangerous. After all, if an officer can’t see who’s inside a car, let alone what they’re doing, as they’re walking up, they could easily be ambushed. And there are people who hate cops so much they’d love to do such a thing just because they can.
Other arguments about overly dark window tint includes the inability for other drivers to see through another person’s windows and spot traffic on the other side. We think that’s a rather weak argument, but not everyone views it that way.
Even if we don’t agree with the allowed tint amount in California and other states, we don’t think running from police is ever the solution. But his guy did.
As reported by KTLA 5, there’s an extra wrinkle in the case. Supposedly, the Mopar muscle car might have been involved in a street takeover in South Los Angeles where there was a fatal shooting. In other words, the window tint could’ve been a pretense to pull the vehicle over and gather more evidence.
Again, not everyone will think that’s justified or good, but it does shed additional light onto why CHP decided to pursue. Ultimately, the guy surrendered after the Challenger suffered some damage during the chase, all over window tint, supposedly.
