We’ve seen people drive out of PIT maneuvers before, which is always entertaining to watch, but this might be the first time we’ve seen someone just drive backwards after being spun around by a cop. It happened back on August 29 after a member of Arkansas State Police chased down a suspect fleeing police in a Jeep Renegade.
Watch a Chevy Silverado chase come to a shocking conclusion.
To be clear, a Renegade is a horrible getaway vehicle, as we’ve seen before. The little Fiat Jeep is slow, handles like a Dalmatian on a frozen pond, and all around just sucks. Yet this lady tried using hers to smoke law enforcement.
Why she wasn’t stopped before the trooper easily catches up with her in the dashcam footage isn’t clear. After all, she’s not exactly going 140 mph, blacking out, and disappearing into the night. But the trooper is able to pull off a PIT maneuver rather quickly.
That’s when the Renegade spins around and the suspect decides to just throw it into reverse and keep driving that way. Why she does that isn’t clear, although after the Jeep is finally stopped she gets out and raves like someone suffering a mental breakdown, so that might have something to do with it.
At first the trooper just follows in front of (or is it behind?) the reversing Jeep, probably waiting for the lady to wreck out. Most people can’t travel in reverse for more than a hundred feet without an incident, but the suspect seems to have some practice.
Realizing this, the trooper gets alongside and pushes the shoebox crossover off onto the grassy shoulder, leading to it finally getting stuck in the ditch. After all, this isn’t a real Jeep, just a Fiat with a Jeep badge.
That’s when we see the raving mother brought her young son along for the pursuit with police. Unbelievable.
