They say truth is stranger than fiction and that certainly seems to be the case with a TikTok influencer’s truck towing his boat was stolen in Houston. The thief fled from police in what we would describe as not the most ideal getaway vehicle.
Stolen Dodge Durango and trailer lead to crash in Los Angeles.
The popular Alabama fisherman with a large social media following visited the Lone Star State and didn’t get the warmest welcome. It all happened on the morning of July 4, making for not a great holiday. Hopefully it doesn’t scare him away from future visits.
That influencer, Garrett Walters, visited Houston with his girlfriend to do some fishing and make some videos to entertain his followers. Instead, the thieves derailed those plans. We still think he could make some interesting videos about his truck and boat getting swiped.
Thieves took the Ford F-250 and the fishing boat on its trailer that was hitched up as they sat in Walters’ brother’s driveway overnight.
Spotting that unusual combination with out of state plate of course was easy. When police caught up with the thieves in the northwest metro area, he led them in a high-speed chase across Houston before they both bailed and ran away on foot. One guy was caught, but the other got away for now.
While police did successfully use spike strips on the truck and trailer not too long before the end of the chase, which at one point hit 120 mph, Walters doesn’t think that’s what made the thieves abandon his Ford and boat.
He told Fox 26 Houston that before the pursuit began, the thief was at a gas station putting fuel in the truck. Instead of using diesel, which is what the F-250 requires, the genius criminals put in gasoline. Walters believes that caused the truck to stop running properly. It’s a miracle it was able to go so fast for so long before failing.
