Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal offered a glimpse into the scale of his wealth last year after appearing genuinely surprised to learn he had ordered not one, but two Cadillac Escalade IQ SUVs.
The moment occurred when O’Neal was filmed receiving delivery of a customized Escalade IQ at his home. As the vehicle arrived, O’Neal appeared briefly confused about the delivery, eventually realizing he had completely forgotten placing the order months earlier. The reaction highlighted how routine large purchases can become for one of basketball’s most financially successful figures.
For most buyers, purchasing a new vehicle represents months or years of planning and saving. For O’Neal, however, the transaction appeared to carry far less weight. His ability to overlook the purchase of a luxury SUV underscored how different financial decisions can feel when resources are effectively unlimited.
The Escalade IQ was customized by Effortless Motors, a shop known for tailoring vehicles to fit O’Neal’s unusually tall frame. The company had previously modified another Escalade IQ for him, though O’Neal later determined that the earlier version did not provide the space and comfort he needed. That led him to order a second, revised build—an order that later slipped his mind.
Effortless Motors has also worked on other high-profile projects for O’Neal, including modifying a carbon fiber Cybertruck to accommodate his size. By the time the forgotten Escalade arrived, the necessary adjustments had already been completed, turning the delivery into an unexpected bonus rather than an inconvenience.
The episode represents only a small part of O’Neal’s expansive automotive collection. He has previously acknowledged owning roughly 40 vehicles, despite admitting he does not have a clear explanation for why he needs so many. His spending history includes paying $1.3 million for three Rolls-Royce vehicles after a salesman suggested he could not afford one.
Despite his own lavish habits, O’Neal has consistently encouraged fans to be cautious with their finances. Still, moments like forgetting a luxury SUV delivery highlight just how far removed his financial reality is from that of most people.
