Taking to social media site X, Richard Hammond shocked many by announcing he and his wife are splitting and will divorce. “Our marriage is coming to an end,” he said in a post published today. The two have been married for 28 years and have two daughters together.
Who says the Cybertruck isn’t a real pickup?
Co-host of The Grand Tour and formerly Top Gear, Richard Hammond is a big celebrity in the automotive world as well as beyond. For many regular folks, the guy seems to have it all. This just goes to show that celebrity status and money don’t always equal happiness, including in a marriage.
Some on X seemed to think Hammond’s announcement was unnecessary, even tacky or just plain wrong. The part at the end where he calls for “privacy” during the divorce is what seemed to rile many.
But in a way we understand. After all, being a celebrity the news he and his wife have split or later have gone through a divorce is going to leak out somehow. Rather than wait until rumors run wild, he’s getting out in front of the news and letting everyone know he and his wife won’t be giving interviews or making further statements.
Inevitably, people are going to speculate about what led up to the divorce. It’s an unfortunate part of human nature, but we’ve seen it happen with non-celebrity splits plenty of times. It would be great if everyone would just mind their own business.
We wish Richard Hammond the best moving forward.
