The Fox Body Ford Mustang just reached another milestone in its ongoing revival. At this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas, custom builder Velocity introduced what it calls the world’s first production restomod version of the iconic pony car — a modernized, high-performance take on the 1991 Mustang LX.

The project reflects the surge in interest surrounding Fox Body Mustangs, especially among Generation X enthusiasts who grew up with the model and are now fueling its comeback in the collector market. Velocity’s new build aims to meet that demand by offering a blend of nostalgia and cutting-edge performance, transforming the once-humble muscle car into a turnkey modern machine.

Built from the ground up, the Mustang rides on a Roadster Shop Spec chassis and is powered by Ford Performance’s Gen 4x 5.0-liter Coyote crate engine paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger boosts output to an impressive 800 horsepower, sent to the rear wheels through a carbon driveshaft and Ford 9-inch differential. Braking is handled by Baer six-piston calipers, while 18-inch CCW billet wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires provide the grip.

Visually, the car pays tribute to its roots with a Jet Black finish, a two-inch cowl hood with billet hinges, and side splitters from Carter’s Customs. Inside, the transformation continues with Velocity-designed panels, Recaro heated seats, a Sparc steering wheel, and a host of modern comforts including digital gauges, a Vintage Air system, and premium audio components.
Velocity plans to add the restomod Mustang to its Signature Series lineup in 2026, making the dream of owning a factory-built, modernized Fox Body a reality for enthusiasts. With this debut, the classic 1980s icon has officially entered a new era of performance and collectability.
