With the Nissan GT-R R34 now old enough to import into the United States, only the lucky few who can afford these Godzillas will be tooling around in them. Among them is rapper T-Pain, even though he didn’t shell out for his, not because he couldn’t but because his friend just gifted one to him for his birthday. What a nice friend!
This Mazda RX-7 has been modified with four rotors and all-wheel drive.
That friend runs the YouTube channel HertLife and at the beginning expressed how crazy it was that he was even doing such a thing. For many American enthusiasts, R34s have been forbidden fruit for so long, being able to not just look at one but climb behind the right-side steering wheel and cruise around in one is a surreal experience.
At the beginning of the video, the YouTuber explains that for someone like T-Pain who’s owned Bugattis and other rather expensive exotics, understanding why a Nissan costs so much to buy can be a little much.
To be honest, even as enthusiasts who appreciate how technologically advanced the R34 was for its time, plus how balanced of a performance car it is, we can’t believe how much they’re selling for now that they’re legal to import.
We thought prices would increase some as American demand came into play, but seeing the difference in prices just over the past two to three years is insane. Even if we could afford one, realizing what other cars we could purchase for the same amount would make pulling the trigger on an R34 difficult, to be perfectly honest.
Obviously, there are people who feel differently. Maybe we would after finally driving one, a privilege we sadly haven’t enjoyed.
Immediately after taking delivery, the friend gets the R34 a fresh teal wrap with Spam-themed livery. It’s an interesting choice and obviously a joke between friends, so we’re glad T-Pain likes it.
