Magnus Walker has teamed up with Italian boutique automaker Pininfarina to create a bespoke Battista hypercar. Depending on what you think of the fashion designer turned car designer’s rather unique aesthetics, which are often applied to Porsches, you’re either jumping for joy or dreading Walker getting more limelight.

He is, in fact, quite the divisive designer in the automotive scene. If that’s shocking to you, then you’re obviously one of his fans, or you just don’t pay too much attention to his work and the reactions it garners.

Obviously, since this project was in collaboration with the automaker, Walker couldn’t go too far off the deep end. The result is a bespoke design for a Battista which isn’t too wild, but that might not be enough for some fans.
Of course, the Battista makes most of the classic Porsches Walker has worked on, giving them almost a rat rod-type makeover, look rather cheap, even tawdry. The all-electric hypercar costs a whopping $3 million or more, so the clientele who would be lured in by this collaboration are going to be picky.
The point of this for Pininfarina is to show off its customization capabilities so more potential customers understand what it can do. There’s big money in these bespoke services, something Rolls-Royce pioneered back in the day.
For Walker, the collaboration is another proverbial feather in his cap. The hypercar he’s designed will eventually be sold to an unnamed customer of Pininfarina, likely someone who’s a big fan of his work.
Walker said he enjoyed working with Pininfarina on creating the bespoke Battista hypercar. “It was the perfect blank canvas to express my artistic creativity and personality at this moment in time: I took inspiration from the ’70s and ’80s to create this color blocking and strobe effect and turn it into something signature, bespoke and unique that I believe will be distinctive and alluring for decades to come.”
This also serves as another opportunity for Pininfarina to get the Battista out in front of the public through media coverage of the collaboration. We suspect some people forgot about the all-electric hypercar, while others still think Pininfarina is just doing design services for other automakers.
