It wasn’t that long ago rock stars proudly gave the finger to all things establishment. But Metallica and other bands have in a way become part of the establishment in an ironic twist, which might be why the ground has announced it’s using electric and natural gas buses and trucks for the European leg of its M72 World Tour.
Watch exotic supercars and hypercars drive through the snow.
Metallica will be using these “green” heavy vehicles as they perform in Munich, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Warsaw, and Madrid. Each one will wear the black and yellow Metallica livery, just like what’s featured on the 72 Seasons album cover.
All this is about shrinking the carbon footprint of the band. Just remember, these are (mostly) the same guys who once released “Jump in the Fire” and “Fight Fire With Fire.” My, how times change.
Of course, some will think this latest development with Metallica is a great way to promote “cleaner” vehicles and being responsible. We’re just wondering since when did heavy metal become about social responsibility?
Maybe the change was when Metallica stopped playing heavy metal and started doing whatever it makes now. Just a thought.
In a push to promote this green truck initiative, IVECO and Metallica are asking truck drivers to participate in a contest to win concert tickets. No matter what brand truck drivers use, they’re being asked to send in videos of them performing to Metallica songs. We assume this will be used on social media and some are pretty hilarious. It’s an interesting move, to say the least.
When IVECO made the announcement of its partnership with Metallica, the company played the band’s song “It’s Electric.” We wonder which clever person in marketing came up with that.
