Recently, McLaren shared a funny video of Lando Norris giving Oscar Piastri a ride in his P1 hypercar around Silverstone. It was a great way to whet the appetite of Formula One fans before the season begins and shows how the two drivers interact in a little bit more relaxed stage.
Check out Lando Norris’ newest toy.
In-cabin cameras captured the two as they climbed into the McLaren P1 and drove around the track, which was apparently wet at the time. From the beginning, you could see on Piastri’s face some regret about riding shotgun in the 727-horsepower hypercar.
After all, the guy nervously asked if his teammate was going flat out, to which Norris laughed and said he wasn’t. That only seemed to make Piastri even more uneasy. Perhaps it’s the fact he’s used to being in control while going around Silverstone or any other circuit?
But the two very rapidly started analyzing the track, where it might be dryer than in other spots, conjecturing about tire grip and basically talking shop. It’s obvious the two can have fun, but they’re also professionals and some of the most talented racecar drivers on the planet.
Of course, these two drivers are pretty used to each other at this point, considering this will be their third season as teammates. Still, this video seems to show the limits of how much they trust each other. But by the end of the track run, they were both eager to test out the limits of the hypercar.
The McLaren P1 debuted to much fanfare, part of what was called at the time the Holy Trinity of hypercars along with the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder. A clean example will go for well over $1 million these days, with values likely to continue climbing.
