Jeremy Clarkson Says He Can No Longer Drive The Cars He Loves

Jeremy Clarkson, known for his dry British wit, has admitted before the final episode of The Grand Tour airs he can no longer drive the cars he loves the most. It’s the sort of thing that’s either shocking people or making them laugh as the influential car reviewer continues entertaining his fans.

Actor claims he can’t afford gas for his truck, trades it in for a hybrid.

Reflecting back on his career in a column published in the UK’s The Sunday Times, he reminisces about his time on Top Gear and how he, James May, and Richard Hammond became the most unlikely of friends and allies, turning around what was a dismal automotive show on the BBC.

After their tenure ended, the trio signed on with Amazon Prime for The Grand Tour. But that’s now coming to and close as well. To the dismay of many, Clarkson announces in the column that the trio are splitting up, each one going his own way.

They had a solid 22-year run, achieving the type of stardom no other car reviewers in the world have ever enjoyed. Nothing lasts forever and quite frankly it’s amazing their time in the spotlight has stretched on as long as it has.

In fact, Clarkson thumbs his nose at critics who had been waiting for the trio to crash and burn professionally. That, of course, never happened. And now they ride off into the sunset.

Only, Clarkson won’t be driving one of the many cool cars he’s enjoyed for all these years. You see, in the column he admits he no longer can do such things because he’s “too old and fat to get into the cars.” Considering the acrobatics necessary to climb into and out of virtually every supercar and hypercar out there, we understand what he means.

May and Hammond put in their own words how they feel about their careers together on Top Gear and The Grand Tour. It’s a touching way to mark the end of an era.
