Basketball legend Michael Jordan has owned a number of cool cars, but his famous black Ferrari 512 TR disappeared about 15 years ago. Many have wondered what happened to the vehicle or if it was sadly destroyed. Now, a group of guys claim to have tracked down the unique exotic owned by one of the greatest athletes that ever lived.

While everyone knows the black Ferrari 512 TR was owned by Michael Jordan, fewer people are aware businessman Chris Gardner, the inspiration for the Will Smith movie The Pursuit of Happyness, became the second owner in 1995.
Once Gardner was done with it, the car was sold to the third owner in 2010. Then it just disappeared from the public eye. But the guys behind the car YouTube channel We Are Curated started digging, but it took over a decade to track it down.
The last time the Ferrari was seen in public was at the Barrett-Jackson Orange County 2010 auction where it sold for a high bid of $61,600, a shockingly low amount.
From the sound of things, tracking down the car was a bit of a wild goose chase. At one point they received a tip that it had been chopped and the parts were being sold online. However, there was apparently a clerical error with recording the VIN and it was discovered to not be Michael Jordan’s old whip.
Another time, they were negotiating the purchase of a Ferrari 512 TR the owner claimed was Jordan’s. However, once the owner sent over a copy of the title, the VIN didn’t match the famous ride, so it was another dead end.
But the guys at Curated didn’t give up. You need to watch the video to hear them tell the story, because it’s an amazing tale of perseverance, the same quality which made Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls the legends they are today.
