We didn’t think we’d see a 2008 BMW M6 abandoned and badly damaged like this one for some time. But this YouTuber tracked down one supposedly gifted to a teenage girl who thrashed it before the German performance car was left out in the elements for years. His plan is to resurrect the Bimmer, which proves to be a tall order.
Watch a guy work a miracle restoring a Porsche 993 abandoned underwater.
After all, not only does the M6 have a plastic sheet instead of a rear window, collision damage, and a broken window that won’t roll all the way up, there’s standing water on the floorboards. Of course, there’s also mold throughout the interior and rodent damage under the hood.
In short, the BMW is a disaster.
But these young guys load it up into a trailer, we assume after paying some quantity of cash for the thing. A car like this could become a huge money pit – we’ve seen that time and again. After all, that BMW V10 is notorious for expensive problems, and that’s just the beginning.
However, the YouTuber seems to know his stuff when it comes to the M6, so he proceeds with caution, opting to not fire the engine up and see what happens. Instead, he runs diagnostics and the Bimmer throws 68 fault codes. This is when most people would cut their losses, part of the car, and be done.
But the guy decides to dig further, looking at the oil and filter. There he finds metal shavings – not a good sign. Again, most people would just give up and start selling parts off the Bimmer. But this guy changes the oil and filer, then tries to get the V10 running again.
Amazingly, the car starts and drives, sort of. The engine appears to be in limp mode as all kinds of misfires, transmission codes, etc. show up on the diagnostic screen. Let this be a lesson to everyone: the most expensive car you can buy is a cheap German.
