Gordon Ramsay was seen arriving at London’s Savoy Hotel in a newly delivered Aston Martin Valhalla on Monday but encountered difficulty opening the supercar’s door, leaving his wife Tana waiting inside. The 59-year-old chef had been driving the £1 million hybrid hypercar through the city when he stopped at the landmark hotel and attempted to operate the vehicle’s handle-less dihedral door.
As he pulled up to the entrance, Ramsay appeared unsure how to release the door mechanism. Video captured by photographer and car enthusiast Freddie Atkins showed Ramsay asking for the vehicle’s manual while trying to figure out the system. Tana Ramsay remained seated inside as he worked through the unfamiliar controls. At one point, he knocked on the window before successfully opening the door.
After resolving the issue, Ramsay greeted Atkins and shook hands with hotel doormen before entering the Savoy.
The Aston Martin Valhalla was developed with input from Formula One designer Adrian Newey and has been described as the successor to the Valkyrie. The model is powered by a V8 engine paired with three electric motors, producing a combined 1,064 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque. It is Aston Martin’s first hybrid supercar, capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph. Deliveries of the highly anticipated model were previously delayed before reaching customers.
The London appearance came shortly after Ramsay discussed his daughter Holly’s December wedding to Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty. He said he considers Peaty a son and described the wedding ceremony at Bath Abbey as an emotional occasion for the family.
Ramsay has since taken delivery of the Valhalla and was seen driving the vehicle in central London following the hotel stop.
