Pretty much everyone has idly wondered what they would do if money came spilling out of an armored truck, but some drivers in a Chicago suburb found out firsthand what they would do. After the backdoor on a Brinks truck somehow came open and bags on money tumbled out, some took advantage, swiping the money before disappearing.
Military truck crashed epically in the Seattle area.
We’d love to say we’re shocked by this behavior, but we also have experienced firsthand the disgusting things people will do to extract cash out of others. It really is an eye-opening experience as you realize some have few moral boundaries to keep them from outright stealing.
According to local station WGNTV, about $300,000 in cash tumbled out of the back of that armored Brinks truck as it drove down the street in Oak Park, Illinois. Somehow, the rear door wasn’t completely secured.
Once the driver realized what happened, he turned around and drove back to where the cash hit the road. Upon arrival, he saw 50 to 100 people grabbing as much as they could before running or driving off.
They probably saw the armored truck and realized their opportunity to just keep the cash was about to go away. What really floors us is there isn’t a single report of someone returning the money, at the scene of the incident or even in the weeks after.
@cbschicago Authorities are still investigating after $300,000 in cash fell out of an armored truck in Oak Park. The Brinks truck driver told police about 50 to 100 men and women swooped in, pocketed the cash and took off. #news ♬ original sound – CBSChicago
In fact, we’ve waited to cover this story, which happened on April 22, hoping there would be some feel-good follow-up where one of the thieves realized they did something wrong and returned the cash. Instead, there are zero indications even a dollar from the $300,000 missing has been given back.
Maybe police will track down the thieves, but we wonder if those people view what they did as theft. Perhaps that’s how they justify keeping the money that isn’t theirs?
