Carjacked Coffee Truck And Trailer Destroys Performing Arts Center

Estimated read time 2 min read

We remember back when carjackings were something which happened, but usually to people who didn’t lock their doors while sitting at red lights. These days it seems criminals will carjack just about anyone driving anything, like this mobile coffee service’s pickup truck and trailer.

Even carjackers don’t want Android phones.

An employee was fixing something in the trailer with it and the truck backed into a driveway in Ventura County when the unnamed suspect jumped into the pickup and drove off. That employee had to jump out of the trailer about a quarter of a mile down the road, thankfully not suffering any serious injuries.

Police started chasing the carjacker, with the pursuit lasting about an hour and stretching into the San Fernando Valley. Yet again we have to ask what if police had the authorization to just put the smack down on fleeing suspects, would this and other chases have such an unfavorable outcome?

After all, the end result was two businesses took huge financial hits as their assets were destroyed by the carjacker’s prolonged reckless behavior.

Video shared by KTLA 5 of the end of the pursuit shows at least one if not multiple tires on the trailer were gone. The suspect kept driving the truck like he stole it, which he did, but with the trailer skating on bar wheel rims, it eventually swung around as he whipped through a turn, causing the truck to spin out of control.

Both ended up in the front patio area of a local performing arts center. A spokeswoman from that center said she’s happy nobody was there at the time of the crash, but she’s unsure if repairing the patio and other parts of the building damaged in the wreck will be possible.

The owner of Matt’s Coffee Express told KTLA the damage to his $100,000 trailer and the truck is extensive, so that will also be a huge setback for the business.

What we can’t understand is why someone would think running from police in a truck with a trailer attached is a good plan. But that might be the whole point, there was no plan, just someone stealing because they could.
