It seems actor Brad Pitt has been bitten by the F1 cars bug as he admits he wants to drive them more often. We can only imagine once you experience such a thing, most other rides just don’t seem to cut it anymore, so we can hardly blame the guy.
Check out Brad Pitt’s car collection.
Pitt didn’t get behind the wheel of a real Formula One racecar until last week when he had a test outing with McLaren at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. He was able to drive the MCL60 Lando Norris drove for the 2023 season.
Norris was there to help coach the A-list actor who stars in the new F1 movie. During filming, Pitt didn’t drive an F1 racecar but in fact was in a Formula 2 car modified to look like an F1 racer.
As part of the promotional tour for the new movie, Pitt went on the Beyond the Grid podcast recently where he talked about his experience in the McLaren MCL60. There is came out that Pitt was able to push the F1 racecar to 197 mph, falling just short of his 200 mph goal.
He say he definitely wants to take an F1 racer for a spin around the grid again, something which might prove a little difficult, even for a celebrity such as himself. The experience, the actor says, was “really extraordinary” and described the sensation of driving such a machine as a “sublime groove.”
The only thing Pitt says he’s experienced that’s even close to driving an F1 racecar was riding in a aerobatic plane once. According to him, that still isn’t quite the same because in the MCL60 he could feel a “fulcrum point underneath” that was unlike anything else.
Speaking about the appeal of the F1 movie, Pitt called it “visceral” and “emotional,” saying it will appeal to both motorsports fans and people who don’t even like cars. In other words, he believes it could be the big summer blockbuster.
