While there are some truly great car movies, including those highlighting motorsports such as 2019’s Ford v Ferrari, that’s not as true for motorcycle culture. While The Fastest Indian was great, we’re hard-pressed to think of many other memorable films featuring two-wheeled machines. That might change as a feature film with Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum attached is reportedly in the works.
These celebrities really love their motorcycles.
Called The Greatest Race on Earth, the film is supposed to be about the legendary Isle of Man TT. That’s an exciting topic for motorcycle enthusiasts and one we think general audiences might be able to appreciate.
With the star power of those two, such a film might have a shot at bringing in big audiences, but only if it’s entertaining enough for the masses. That doesn’t mean it has to be overly watered down, Ford v Ferrari wasn’t, but it needs to be accessible to those who don’t even know how to ride a motorcycle.
The Isle of Man TT should be the perfect topic to keep audiences on the edge of their seats. After all, the annual race is inherently dangerous, with riders pushing their bikes up to 200 mph as they speed past rock walls, trees, and other obstacles. Over 150 people have died in the over 120 years of the event being held, including five just in 2022.
That element of danger, which doesn’t have to be embellished by Hollywood writers, should be enough to keep the film engaging. Plus, if they use practical effects instead of CGI, the result could be absolutely breathtaking.
According to Variety, production of The Greatest Race on Earth has already begun even though the screenplay is still in development. Not much else is known as the project is still likely quite fluid. We’ll just have to wait and see what the final product is like.
