Actor Brad Pitt reportedly finally drove a real F1 racecar around a track late last week along with a famous racer. This comes just before the release of the F1 movie. Believe it or not, the actor never did pilot a real Formula One car in the movie footage but instead was behind the wheel of a modified Formula 2 car. That’s the power of Hollywood magic for you.
A Days of Thunder sequel starring Tom Cruise has been confirmed.
Multiple reports confirm that on June 19, Pitt was able to drive an older McLaren F1 car around Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. McLaren hosted the A-list actor, taking to social media to proudly declare, “It’s a Sonny day in Austin” along with an image of overalls bearing the initials “BP.”
In the F1 movie, Pitt’s character is Sonny Hayes, a washed up former F1 driver who gets a chance to race in the series and receive redemption after a career-ending crash.
Reportedly, the car Pitt was allowed to drive on Circuit of the Americas is an MCL60. McLaren used that car for the 2023 season.
The team was in Texas after the Canadian GP for a Testing of Previous Car (TPC) outing, inviting Brad Pitt for the event. Lando Norris reportedly was helping to mentor the actor before he was allowed to take the MCL60 out on the open track.
We have no idea how hard Pitt pushed the car, but considering his age and lack of racing experience, we would assume he was told to take it a little easy. Considering how insistent the man has been that he’s nowhere near the level of real F1 drivers in skill, we would imagine he took any advice to heart.
At least, we know Pitt didn’t wreck out or that would’ve been all over the place. So the man was able to control the racecar, which is itself impressive.
The F1 movie hits theaters here in the US on Friday, June 27.
