For many, seeing a Volkswagen Bug brings a smile to their face, but the Twisted TBug might come with plenty of questions. While we’ve all seen Baja Bugs in the past, which are pretty cool, a shop in England that’s known for building cool Land Rover Defenders decided to do its own version and it’s pretty amazing.
Check out the creepy fuzzy Volkswagen Bug.
According to Twisted Automotive, the maker of the TBug, it’s not a restoration or even a modification of the classic Volkswagen Beetle. Instead, the creation is a “complete reimagining” of the classic car so many love.
While the overall design emphasizes simplicity, something that’s greatly lacking in today’s automotive landscape, it also punches things up further. The result is a purpose-built off-roader that can do more and has a bigger chip on its shoulder than the old Baja Bugs.

Just one look at the TBug and that’s communicated quite clearly. Modern LED headlights, big fender flares, and plenty of rubber set an aggressive, modern tone like what you might see on a modified Jeep Wrangler.
Under the skin is an array of upgrades that would make many enthusiasts perk up with interest. Included in the long list are long-travel suspension components, upgraded brakes, a juiced-up powertrain that’s still making under 80-horsepower, modern electronics for the interior, etc.
Since each TBug is a bespoke build, no two will be exactly alike. Of course, any bespoke work done to this level of quality won’t be cheap, but Twisted Automotive’s Land Rover Defenders aren’t known as good options for the budget-conscious.

The inspiration for the Twisted TBug came from an unlikely source: Twisted Automotive found Charles Fawcett’s sister’s old Baja Bug posters proudly displayed on her bedroom wall when they were kids.
He said the images mesmerized him and stuck in his head as something “rebellious, capable, and unashamedly fun.” We think his vision has been realized in beautiful fashion.
