Elderly Man Killed In Electric Scooter Hit-And-Run

Estimated read time 2 min read

Depending on who you ask, electric scooters can be regarded as a bane of society, a plague which has spread across different cities. While most find them annoying, a family in Los Angeles’ Koreatown is in mourning after a woman riding an e-scooter hit their 65-year-old patriarch, leading to his death days later.

Learn how militaries are using electric motorcycles.

It’s the kind of story we hate to see, but it highlights the grim reality of people riding scooters, speeding along on sidewalks, unaware they’re putting pedestrians in danger. We personally have seen some bad accidents involving the two-wheeled electric vehicles so many seem to think are just playthings.

This accident happened back on September 12 with surveillance cameras capturing the moment the woman, who was accompanied by a man on another e-scooter, zipped along the sidewalk. At that same moment, the elderly victim stepped out of a restaurant and was struck.

The collision knocked the man and the female rider to the ground. Blood oozed out of the elderly man’s head after he slammed it on the sidewalk. But as the victim’s wife got out her phone and called for help, the two e-scooter riders took off.

Not wanting to inconvenience anyone, the victim declined going to the hospital. However, after he returned home he vomited. That’s when his family called for an ambulance, but once at the hospital they learned the injury to his brain was too far gone.

Days later, the man was declared braindead.

Now Los Angeles police are investigating the incident as a felony hit-and-run. We don’t think most people speeding around on e-scooters understand if they get into a collision with someone and take off it can be considered criminal.

What do you think about these e-scooters people can rent in cities? Are they are a good thing, an annoyance, or something that should be done away with?
