A 1974 Steyr-Puch Pinzgauer 710M once owned by automotive executive Bob Lutz is now being offered for sale in Round Rock, Texas. The former Swiss Armed Forces vehicle later joined Lutz’s personal collection after he purchased it in 1991. The olive drab 4×4 is the soft-top troop carrier variant and retains its military configuration.

The first-generation 710M was developed as a dedicated off-road military platform and entered production in 1971. Built around a central backbone tube chassis, the 4×4 features fully independent suspension, portal axles, and three hydraulically locking differentials. Portal axles position the differentials higher than the wheel centers, significantly increasing ground clearance and cross-country capability. Power comes from an air-cooled 2.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine rated at 87 horsepower and 133 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. Braking is handled by four-wheel drums.
This example retains its canvas top with clear plastic side windows, dual rear bench seats, wooden cargo bed side rails, under-bed storage lockers, and a European-style rear tow hook. It rides on 16-inch steel wheels fitted with 245-series Maloya tires.

The vehicle underwent a cosmetic refurbishment in 2005 and later sold on Bring a Trailer in June 2021. Under current ownership, reported work includes carburetor re-jetting, fluid changes, and replacement of axle boots and gauges. A replacement digital odometer displays 255 miles.
Originally designed to move personnel and equipment across steep alpine terrain, the Pinzgauer took its name from a hardy Austrian horse breed known for its ability to navigate difficult landscapes. Early models were engineered for controlled off-road mobility rather than speed, and surplus examples later transitioned into civilian use.

The Pinzgauer is offered with Swiss registration documents, service records, the owner’s manual, and a clean Texas title.
