The drag racing community is mourning the loss of Ed Robbins, a beloved racer and man of deep faith, who was tragically killed in a crash at Jackson Dragway in Tennessee on October 18th.
According to authorities, Robbins was involved in a single-car accident during an event at the eighth-mile drag strip, located between Nashville and Memphis. Emergency crews from Madison County responded to the scene, but Robbins was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. All remaining track activities were canceled for the night out of respect for his family and fellow racers.
Jackson Dragway is known for its tight-knit community and welcoming atmosphere, drawing drivers from across the region for grassroots competition. The loss has shaken local racers who describe Robbins not only as a skilled driver, but as someone whose faith and spirit left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Close friend Michael Upchurch paid tribute to Robbins in a heartfelt message shared on social media. “There hasn’t been anyone I can remember who was as vocal and passionate about his relationship with Jesus,” he wrote. “It was plastered all over his car. You couldn’t get him to stop talking about Jesus.”
Upchurch added that Robbins died doing what he loved most — racing. “Some say he was too hard on the brakes, or that a tie rod broke. No matter. He died wanting to race. Not the car’s fault, not the track’s fault, not Ed’s fault. It was life — and we all face danger daily.”
Robbins’ passing serves as a somber reminder of the risks that come with motorsport, even at small local tracks where community and camaraderie run deep. Fellow racers and fans have shared tributes online, remembering him not only for his racing passion, but for his unwavering faith and kindness.
As the Jackson Dragway family continues to grieve, their message is clear — Ed Robbins may have crossed the finish line for the final time, but his spirit and example will keep driving others forward.
