A built Audi R8 has reportedly set a new world record, blasting through the quarter mile in 6.94 seconds at a scorching 218 mph. To prove the unbelievable accomplishment, builder Underground Racing posted video evidence of the run.

While there’s a bit of tire smoke and flamethrowers spit before the modified German supercar lines up for the record run, predictably the start was clean and effective. There was plenty of drama once the time and trap speed displayed on the board, confirming that all the hard work that went into dialing up the Audi’s performance wasn’t for nothing.
What’s just as amazing is this R8 isn’t stripped to the metal inside. Instead, Underground Racing says it still has the full interior. It is using drag radials.
The record run was done at Rockingham Dragway in Richmond County, North Carolina recently, the video hitting YouTube on April 22. Funny enough, the first run with this car broke the Audi R8 quarter mile time, doing it in 7.11 seconds at 218 mph. The second pass, which you see in the video, broke the 7-second barrier, making history.
Underground Racing says it believes with a stronger clutch installed in this R8, it can probably do a 6.8 second pass.
For those keeping track, you might remember four years ago when Underground Racing set a world record for an Audi R8 in the quarter mile, breaking into the 7s at 7.6 seconds going 196 mph. That seemed insane then, but this run blew that record away.
About a year ago, Underground Racing used an Audi R8 to do the quarter mile in 7.2 seconds at 205 mph. This is how improvements are made in elite racing: by small increments over the expanse of time.
Watch the world record run for yourself.
