An Indiana woman who was caught stealing a car with a child inside says it’s all Kanye West’s fault. Supposedly, the rapper “telegraphically” told her to do it. That doesn’t sound like the Ye we’ve come to know.
Learn what a motorcycle rider did wrong after a bridge collapsed.
This happened in Evansville, Indiana in late August after the suspect, Ricki Smith of Louisville, Kentucky, had her car break down on Interstate 64 as she was traveling to Evansville. She hitchhiked the rest of the way, then started trying door handles on cars parked outside some businesses on North Main Street.
Thankfully, the victim spotted Smith climbing into her unlocked car, which had her child inside, as the victim was walking into a store. She grabbed Smith by the hair and dragged her out before she could take the vehicle or harm the kid.
Police showed up at the scene and asked Smith why she tried to steal the car. That’s when she blamed Kanye West, saying the musician “telegraphically” communicated to her that she should take it.
Amazingly, Smith was still arrested and nobody has slapped handcuffs on Kanye. Smith was charged with kidnapping and auto theft. Was this another miscarriage of justice?
Investigating the matter further, authorities found Smith’s car wrecked into some trees by I-64. That’s why she hitchhiked, then tried stealing a vehicle. We bet she doesn’t even know Kanye.
Cops hear all kinds of crazy stuff when they respond to calls, arrest people, and drive suspects to the local jail. That said, we bet even after all they’re heard during their time on the force, the police involved with this case probably laughed all the way home after hearing someone seriously claim Kanye West “telegraphically” told them to kidnap a child and steal a car.
But in the moment, the danger to the child was undoubtedly real. We’re glad the mother was able to stop Smith. Hopefully she gets the help she obviously needs.
