Everybody’s favorite wiener on wheels, the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile, was involved in a deflating accident on I-294 in the Chicago area recently. We hate to see such an iconic vehicle get banged up and roasted in such a way, although thankfully nobody was injured in the collision.
Learn about Elvis Presley’s infamous Pantera shooting.
Images of the crash aftermath posted to X by user ChicagoCritter shows the hotdog-shaped car on its side in the right lane of traffic by a concrete barrier. At least the wiener didn’t get crunched in the process, although the front fascia and hood of the Mini it’s built on didn’t look so great.
According to the Chicago Sun Times, the Wienermobile got into a crash with a Hyundai while traveling down the interstate. It always has to be a Hyundai or maybe a Kia for some reason.
Reportedly, the wiener rearended the other vehicle in a shocking act on the public toll road. That explains the front end damage. After that, the top-heavy hotdog rolled onto its side. Footage uploaded to X by ChicagoCritter shows two people climbing out of the car through the passenger door.
Oscar Meyer calls employees who drive its fleet of Wienermobiles “Hotdoggers.” Neither one suffered injury and apparently the people in the Hyundai it rammed into didn’t, either. Being hurt by a giant wiener probably would’ve been an embarrassing story to tell to people later, so everyone is fortunate on multiple levels.
There are six Wienermobiles in service at the moment, according to Oscar Mayer. Each one travels the country to different events, with people taking videos and posing for photo opportunities. We’re surprised footage of the crash hasn’t emerged so far.
This one is technically a Wiener Mini, as labeled on the rear. We’re sure what it lacks in size it makes up for in other ways, of course.
