Watch Turbo Street Cars Throw Down On The Strip

We love watching people who are dedicated to motorsports traveling to events like Sick Summer at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin to test their mettle. Whether the ride is transported there in an enclosed trailer or it rolls up pulling a small trailer with race tires, the level of excitement and enthusiasm at these events is intense.

Excellent Bad Idea: Farm Machine Drag Racing

There was a little bit of everything at the event, as long as you like American performance. Modified classics like Tri-Fives running a twin-turbo LS went up against the likes of sixth-gen Camaros also using snail power for that lovely hiss.

Just as satisfying is the chop produced by race cams sporting ultra aggressive lobes. That’s something which will disturb many motorists on the road but thrill fellow gearheads as it’s music to our ears.

While these cars can and some are driven on the street, they’re really built for straight-line aggression. With quite a few doing 6-second passes at well over 200 mph, it’s no wonder these guys are tossing the laundry after crossing the finish line.

Those hard passes, pushing the envelope tempts fate as different components on the cars break under the stress. But the drivers and their crew, often friends and/or family, know the machines inside and out. After all, they’ve spent countless hours not only building but fine-tuning the beasts, as well as fixing breakages at past events. Repetition makes them good and handling repairs under pressure.

Speaking of that, it’s great to see a father-daughter team at work in these videos. He’s obviously taught her plenty about building and driving a drag racer. Raising your kids right like this helps ensure the hobby continues into the foreseeable future.

But by far the coolest thing about these events, whether you’re a racer or a spectator, is the camaraderie of fellow gearheads. We’re a strange group with weird customs and foreign terms, at least as far as the normies are concerned. To get together and bond over our shared interests always makes for a great time.
