Watching a Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution drift around in the snow reminds us that if you take away other drivers acting like idiots, snow driving can actually be a lot of fun in the right vehicle. We wouldn’t have guessed the low-slung American hypercar would be the right ride for enjoying the white stuff, but the driver seems to manage it just fine.
Hennessey just made an exciting announcement about a new Revival Series.
The footage was actually taken last winter during the F.A.T. Ice Race in Aspen, Colorado. The Venom and other performance rides whip around an icy, snowy track one at a time in a dance where the white stuff sprays gracefully from drive wheels and hopefully nobody messes up too badly.
It’s not too often you get to see exotic rides really going for it in full winter weather conditions. After all, most owners garage their supercars and hypercars once things get chilly, preferring to travel in their luxury SUVs or other rides better adapted for snow and ice.
In case you don’t know, the Hennessey Venom F5 Revolution packs serious power with its mid-ship twin-turbocharged V8 engine. Peak output is a monstrous 1,800-horsepower. Keep that in check in slipper conditions isn’t easy, but the tight handling dynamics of the car helps make that possible.
It’s no wonder the Venom is driven with such precision in trick conditions. After all, legendary racecar driver David Donohue was behind the wheel. We’re sure he spent a good amount of time familiarizing himself with the hypercar, including driving it in the snow prior to the event.
While you shouldn’t drive your commuter like this during or after a snowstorm where you live, there is a practical lesson in watching this. When you practice enough in the snow and ice, you get better at predicting how your individual vehicle will handle conditions. Finding a nice open space to try it out is a great idea.
