Watching a twin-turbo Ford Mustang go up against a turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa on the drag strip is really interesting. We love weird races, including drag races like this where two completely different vehicles go up against each other. They satisfy so many curiosities of ours and show the weaknesses and strengths of different builds. Plus, a muscle car vs a motorcycle always promises to be interesting.
See a couple find love at Hennessey Performance’s headquarters.
This is of course another installment of Hoonigan’s This vs That series where they take two cars, often that are very different, and have them go head-to-head in a no-prep race.
To the horror of purists, not only does the Mustang have two giant turbos, it’s been LS swapped. We know, the Coyote is a great motor and more people should keep and tune that, etc. But the reality is there are good reasons why racers do LS swapped Mustangs.
While the car usually makes about 1,500-horsepower, it’s been tuned to crank about 1,000-hp for this race. That’s still plenty and should make it a formidable opponent. It’s paired with a two-speed Powerglide and some nice fat drag radials.
However, it’s up against a turbocharged Suzuki Hayabusa that’s owned by a law firm, of all things. The build was done with a turbo kit made for the Hayabusa and in its current tune is supposedly making “a little under” 300-hp. That’s a lot of power for the sport bike.
But a big disadvantage for the Hayabusa is its six-speed manual transmission. There’s room for error there since the rider will need to be managing multiple gear changes flawlessly to keep up with the Mustang.
This isn’t a quarter mile race but instead is 1,000 feet. That helps the motorcycle, in theory, but you should watch the video and see how things shake out (it just might surprise you).
