A highly modified 1987 Buick Regal Grand National has entered the online marketplace, showcasing an extreme reinterpretation of one of Buick’s most recognizable performance coupes. Listed by a private seller, the car carries an asking price of $115,000 with a reserve not met and a $145,000 Buy It Now option. The auction requires a $500 immediate payment and is scheduled to conclude in early February.

Originally known for its turbocharged V6, this Grand National has undergone a comprehensive mechanical overhaul since being acquired by the current seller in 2016. The factory engine has been replaced with a Dart-based 427-cubic-inch LSX V8 built by Thompson Motorsports. The engine is paired with Frankenstein M311 cylinder heads and force-fed by a Bullseye Power 88mm turbocharger. A liquid-to-air intercooler system supports the high-boost setup, with engine management handled by a FuelTech FT600 ECU capable of running on either 93-octane fuel or E85.
Power is routed through a modified Pro Torque 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission equipped with a transbrake and Pro Drive Series internals. A custom-fabricated 9-inch rear axle from TRZ Motorsports manages power delivery, while a removable parachute mounted through the rear bumper reflects the car’s drag-focused intent.

Chassis and suspension upgrades are extensive. The car rides on BC Forged 18-inch wheels, with Continental tires up front and Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S tires in the rear. Suspension components include a Ridetech Tru Turn front system with adjustable coilovers, Strange Engineering rear coilovers, and a TRZ sway bar. Braking is handled by a hydroboost-assisted system featuring Wilwood components and six-piston front calipers.
Inside, the cabin combines racing hardware with street-oriented comfort. A silver roll bar with removable door bars is installed, while Vintage Air climate control and a Pioneer stereo remain in place. The FuelTech display replaces the factory gauges, providing digital monitoring and data logging.
Finished in black with a sculpted hood, the coupe retains the Grand National’s signature appearance while concealing modern fabrication throughout the engine bay. With a clean title, nearly 60,000 miles, and detailed modification history, this Grand National represents an uncompromising restomod approach that pushes the G-body platform far beyond its original performance boundaries.
