While we know the Lexus GS 430 is no performance pushover, we also know most people have zero clue about the car. After all, Lexus has been accused of being too “boring” and not caring about making fun-to-drive vehicles, although that perception has been shifting increasingly. Wait until people see this turbocharged GS 430 build and how it rips, because it’s quite the thing to behold.
Wait until you see how much repairing a wrecked Lexus LFA could cost.
Built by Original Auto in Los Angeles, we don’t necessarily love how it looks. Some people will love the wheels and tires with the slight negative camber, but they’re a little too “stance” for our taste. The carbon-fiber hood isn’t quite a turnoff, but from the get-go there’s a dead giveaway this isn’t a stock GS with some wheels and a fancy hood.
Those with keen eyes will see it right away: the passenger-side secondary headlight is gone, replaced by a carbon-fiber inlet. If you know, you know.
Under the hood of this Lexus is the 3UZ, an engine that might not get everyone worked up but that the guy who runs the Roads Untraveled channel on YouTube says its like “the LS of the Japanese world.” It takes to boost quite well and with upgraded internals becomes beastly in a hurry.
Original Auto apparently left the bottom end of the factory engine stock, preferring to pour resources into the top end. Backing up that engine is a 7-speed dual clutch transmission donated by an F10 Bimmer.
The claimed output for this setup is 400-whp, a nice amount over the factory spec. It’s nothing too wild and with upgraded rods that number could probably climb precipitously, but this build doesn’t go that extreme.
That makes sense since this is more of a VIP build than a performance masterpiece. Of course, the interior is plusher than stock with Alcantara, quilted leather, and more upgrades. This just goes to show if you can get your hands on one of these cars you can still have fun and dial up performance some for more entertainment while cruising around town in comfort. Just we’d do the wheels and tires differently.
