Rapper Travis Scott wowed people five years ago when he and Pop Smoke dropped the GATTI music video. What everyone didn’t realize at the time was the flashy Bugatti Chiron that was heavily featured wasn’t rented for the shoot. Instead, Travis Scott bought it specially to film the music video.
Learn why Post Malone’s Bugatti Chiron is surrounded by controversy.
If you don’t know, many of the expensive rides you see in music videos, just like in movies and TV shows, are in fact rented. There are agencies that specialize in sourcing exotic, ultra-luxury, or other high-end vehicles from owners, paying them a handsome daily fee for using them in different productions.
But when Pop Smoke said the duo’s music video needed Bugattis and he knew a guy who could bring out a few for filming, Travis Scott decided instead to just buy a Chiron. A week later, he was on the film set with the French hypercar that probably set him back around $5 million.
Pop Smoke noticed the interior smelled brand spanking new, remarking to his friend about that fact. Likely feeling a sense of pride, Scott told him the vehicle was his, that he bought it just a week before.
That might sound crazy, but the rapper has the cash and Travis Scott has amassed an impressive collection. He let Complex check it out and it was during the tour he told the story of the Bugatti Chiron.
Scott said he’s always been into cars, watching Formula One racing as a kid. Now he has some incredibly expensive rides, most not quite as pricey as the Chiron. One he showed off to Complex is a 2020 Lamborghini Urus Masonry with plenty of exposed carbon fiber.
Another is his 2018 Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet that’s one of the most expensive version of the G-Wagon out there. He also owns a 2014 Mercedes-Benz G500 Cabriolet Masonry, which isn’t exactly a cheap ride.
What’s curious is the Complex tour only shows a handful of Travis Scott’s rides and the Bugatti Chiron wasn’t shown, just shots from the GATTI music video, making us wonder if the rapper quietly sold the hypercar.
