Travis Pastrana and his friends decided to jump the C8 Corvette Z06 he won from Cleetus McFarland 110 feet, then did it. Some thought the racecar driver was just full of it, but he’s a man of his word and he saw the stunt through to the end. Thankfully, it was all caught on multiple cameras for you to enjoy.
Watch the horrific IndyCar crash from Father’s Day unfold.
But Pastrana knew jumping a C8 Z06 would be a horrendous waste of a great sports car, so he sold the thing after he and his buddies spraypainted it to look like Old Glory. Then he bought a regular Stingray, painted it the same, and used that thing for the stunt.
While the stunt itself looks cool and completely reckless, there’s quite a bit of math and engineering that go into pulling something like this off. Kids who try jumping cars foolishly don’t realize that, which sometimes results in tragedy.
So yes, we’re going to say it: kids, don’t try this at home. These are professionals who got out the calculators and protractors to figure out the stunt.
Enough of that stuff. The stunt is awesome and it’s triggering people who want to whine about how a C8 Corvette is their dream car, so seeing one destroyed “just for clicks” should be a felony or something ridiculous.
While we’re not huge of destroying cars just because, let’s face it: this stunt is awesome. Also, from what we’ve heard Chevy has an oversupply of C8 Corvettes that are piling up at dealerships, so we think taking one off the market permanently is okay.
Jim York was the one crazy enough to pilot the mid-engine sports car in what is reportedly the world’s longest C8 Corvette jump. We can’t verify that, but we also can’t find evidence of a longer jump having been executed by anyone else.
