For many, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is the type of vehicle made out of legends, which is easy to understand after watching this video of one pushing through water. The off-road SUV just plows through water that’s deep enough to kill a lot of vehicles, including these crossovers automakers try convincing everyone are really tough and capable machines.
Is a Porsche the ultimate off-roader?
Someone captured on camera a driver pushing their Toyota Prado through what appears to be fairly deep floodwaters. The water comes up quite a bit on some walls, but the SUV just plows through, leaving a nice wake as it doesn’t get hung up in the muddy surface underneath.
At a few points during the perilous journey, the water is deep enough it comes up over the front edge of the hood. People are amazed the Land Cruiser didn’t get bogged down or stall out as the driver just kept that foot steady on the accelerator.
There’s some discussion online about how the Toyota can ford this water. It helps there’s no visible current, since that can cause real problems for even the most capable off-roaders. But the other thing people point out that we think is a pertinent point is the driver keeps the front wheel arches free from most water.
Since this Prado looks unmodified, or maybe just lightly modded, the air intake should be in one of them. With an intact inner fender liner, the air intake wouldn’t be sucking up a bunch of water, chocking out airflow, so the truck keeps on hauling. The fact the driver is pushing the water aside using the Land Cruiser’s nose helps avoid that problem.
We don’t know where this video was filmed, but it looks like it was perhaps somewhere tropical. Considering the vehicle is a Prado, it’s not in the US or Canada, unless this thing was imported, which happens but isn’t likely. After all, someone with a rare vehicle would probably not risk trying something like this.
Check out the incredible footage for yourself.
