Three major car websites – Motor Authority, Green Car Reports, and The Car Connection – are set to be shut down for good on April 1, 2025. This comes as other media outlets have recently failed, leading us to wonder if this is a sign of more to come in the near future.

An anonymous source tipped us off to the closures. All three websites are owned by Internet Brands, a digital media, marketing, and software company based out of El Segundo, California. We’re unaware of any other sites managed by Internet Brands that are also being shut down anytime soon.
Our source was unaware of the exact reason for the closures, so feel free to speculate. We can generate a number of theories but don’t have anything to back them up, so we’ll leave that part up to you.
These car sites closing comes not too long after it was announced MotorTrend was shutting down Roadkill and its production company. That preceded the announcement that MotorTrend Group had been sold by Warner Bros. Discovery to Hearst Magazines, which also owns Car and Driver and Road & Track, among other magazines.
Motor Authority is the oldest of the three websites, getting its start as a small enthusiast site in 2006. It has since grown in popularity and benefited from the resources Internet Brands provided. Sadly, this is the end of the road.
Green Car Reports was launched in 2008 when electric cars started to make a comeback. While it’s not the only site to focus on that aspect of the industry, it has been cited often in EV circles.
The Car Connection started in 2009 as a way to help car shoppers research new vehicles. According to the site, as a part of Internet Brands automotive team, it contributes to “the largest network of car buying and financing resources in North America.” Come April 1, that will no longer be the case.
Are more car sites, as well as just media outlets, going to be shutting down for good in the near future? Tell us what you think.
