Running from police, whether it’s because you don’t want to get a ticket or your have warrants for your arrest, is a naturally risky thing to do. While plenty of things can go wrong when you’re fleeing from the law, doing so in Arkansas when a trooper is on your tail is just plain stupid. This guy on his motorcycle finds that out the hard way.
Watch an Arkansas trooper run over a fleeing motorcyclist.
Dashcam footage from Arkansas State Police shows the sudden end to a high-speed chase on the streets of Texarkana. It all starts calmly enough with the trooper noticing the guy’s bike isn’t displaying a license plate at all.
At first, our suspect rides calmly, not really speeding and not taking evasive action. Even though the trooper is going lights and sirens, the rider appears oblivious. Perhaps he was just wearing headphones and didn’t look behind him?
But after a bit it becomes obvious the guy was likely plotting what to do next. He makes his move, getting into more of a racing position, twisting the throttle, and speeding up to what you would normally do on the highway.
Because he’s going so fast, the motorcycle rider has to swerve into oncoming traffic lanes to get around slower cars, taking a big risk. The guy must feel that’s acceptable compared to what he’s facing at the hands of the trooper.
All that effort doesn’t get the guy any further ahead of the trooper, who is obviously quite skilled, something we’ve come to expect from ASP. Perhaps that’s why the rider keeps pushing, arguably beyond his skills, and he pays the ultimate price.
As he’s blasting down a road in the oncoming lanes of traffic, it’s not a car coming from the opposite direction but instead a truck that turns left going the same way, signaling properly, which suddenly takes our suspect out.
With a split second to react, thanks to his high speed, the guy ends up in the hospital. And he still has to face the legal consequences of running from the law. Pulling over and taking whatever is coming your way is always better.
