Vehicle trackers work, at least enough to make it worth putting one in your ride. One was credited recently for helping police take down a chop shop in Memphis, Tennessee after a man had his Ford F-250 stolen from a grocery store parking lot.
An actress claims someone put a GPS tracker on her car.
Fortunately, that man opted for a tracking device to be activated in what is his dream ride. That simple move led not only to the recovery of the pickup, but the bust of the chop shop where it was taken, reports Fox13 Memphis.
After it was stolen, the man and his wife used the app to show police where the truck was. However, the cops didn’t seem too interested in tracking it down. Frustrated, the couple got in their other vehicle and followed the signal all the way to an industrial area.
Arriving at the location, they flagged down another officer and told them their stolen truck was inside a transport company’s lot. With that information, the cop went onto the property where they found the Ford with its license plates removed but the truck was still in one piece.
Police detained a man at the facility but let him go after he told a story about some men dropping the F-250 off for repairs. However, that wasn’t the end of the story. The police departments auto theft task force showed up a few days later with a search warrant, finding other stolen cars in different states of disassembly. The suspect was finally arrested.
Each time a chop shop like this is taken down by police it helps curb demand in the area for stolen cars. We think it’s pretty cool that a little GPS tracker was all it took to unravel this operation, something we’ve seen before. The devices are definitely worth the money, if you’re on the fence about getting one or having your factory unit activated.
