If you’ve spent enough time in sandy areas, especially those that aren’t beaches with a tide to change things up, you probably already know big heavy pickup trucks don’t do so well in such an environment. An alleged thief driving a stolen Ford F-250 through sand dunes in an attempt to ditch pursuing police apparently didn’t realize that until it was too late.
This police chase involving a Jeep goes south fast.
The heavy-duty pickup in question was stolen out of Moses Lake, Washington the morning of its recovery, on July 4, reports Source One. Imagine waking up on Independence Day to find your car gone – talk about a way to put a damper on the holiday.
Thankfully, the owner reported it stolen promptly and Moses Lake Police Department put the truck’s info into the Flock camera system. By 11:22 am here was a hit on the pickup as it entered the city, so officers attempted a traffic stop.
But the driver of the stolen Ford F-250 took police on a chase that led into the Sand Dunes recreation area. The suspect probably thought since he was in a four-wheel-drive, capable truck he would be able to go where officers couldn’t.
He was wrong.
That heavy pickup sunk into the sand, which was probably quite hot by that point and so softer, to the point the suspect couldn’t free it. Realizing police were catching up, he got out and fled on foot. However, his flight without the Ford was reportedly brief.
Now 28-year-old Derelle Favors of Sumner, Washington is facing several charges including theft of a motor vehicle, eluding police, resisting arrest, second-degree theft, and possession of stolen property in the second degree.
On a happier note, that means the owner was able to get his Ford F-250 back quickly and from the sound of things in good condition. That’s not always the outcome in a stolen car case.
