The world of NASCAR is set to relive cinematic hilarity as Stewart-Haas Racing injects a dose of “Talladega Nights” nostalgia into this weekend’s YellaWood 500 at none other than the legendary Talladega Superspeedway.
Find out about a NASCAR fight here.
In a nod to the 2006 comedic gem that showcased Will Ferrell’s Ricky Bobby – an amusingly uninformed yet gifted NASCAR driver – and his sidekick Cal Naughton Jr., portrayed by John C. Reilly, two of the four Stewart-Haas Ford Mustangs will don liveries inspired by the film.
Ryan Preece, commandeering the number 41 car, will sport the unmistakable Wonder Bread design, echoing Ricky Bobby’s iconic car (albeit without the cheeky Fig Newtons windshield sticker). On the other hand, Chase Briscoe’s number 14 Mustang will be bedecked in the Old Spice livery, reminiscent of Cal Naughton Jr.’s distinct vehicle. Fans will, however, find solace in the familiarity of Kevin Harvick’s number 4 and Aric Almirola’s number 10 cars, which will retain their regular designs.
While Preece and Briscoe are yet to grace the podium this season, making a victory seem a tall order, their cars’ aesthetic brilliance is undeniable. And if fortune favors, and both racers find themselves side by side, perhaps we might witness their movie counterparts’ famed “slingshot” maneuver. Regardless of the outcome, this cinematic tribute promises to offer fans a delightful spectacle and a trip down memory lane. If you’re not first, you’re last – but this weekend, it’s all about the homage.
